Terms of Use

Terms governing the Brampton Legal Basement website, assessment requests and provider referrals.

Last updated: July 20, 2026. These Terms of Use govern access to and use of the Brampton Legal Basement website, its content, assessment forms and referral features. By using the website or submitting a request, you agree to these Terms. If you do not agree, do not use the website.

Eligibility and Authority

You must be old enough to enter into a binding agreement in Ontario and have authority to provide the property, project and contact information submitted through the website. If you act for a property owner or organization, you confirm that you are authorized to do so.

Website and Referral Service

The website provides general basement information, structured assessment requests and connections with independent contractors, designers, consultants or other service providers. The website operator may review and categorize a request and may receive compensation for a referral or qualified lead.

Independent from the City

Brampton Legal Basement is not the City of Brampton, a municipal authority, a permit issuer or a government service. The website cannot approve a property, issue a permit, register a unit, grant a rental licence or determine final compliance.

No Professional Advice or Professional Relationship

Website content is general information and is not legal, engineering, architectural, building-code, tax, financial, insurance or other professional advice. Using the website or submitting a form does not create a professional, fiduciary, contractor-client, agency or other service relationship with the website operator. A separate written agreement is required for any professional or construction service.

Assessment Requests and Communications

Submitting a form authorizes the website operator and selected service providers to review the information and contact you about the request. A submission is not an acceptance of work, a contract, a quote, an approval or a promise that a provider will respond. You are responsible for keeping submitted information and contact details accurate.

Independent Service Providers

Providers introduced through the website are independent businesses and are not employees, partners, agents or representatives of the website operator. Unless a written agreement expressly states otherwise, the website operator does not control provider availability, advice, pricing, scheduling, workmanship, employees, subcontractors, permits, warranties or regulatory compliance.

Choosing and Contracting with a Provider

You are responsible for evaluating a provider before hiring. This includes confirming identity, qualifications, references, licences, insurance, WSIB status where applicable, written scope, drawings, permit responsibility, payment terms, schedule, change-order process, warranties and dispute terms. Any agreement for design, construction or related services is between you and the provider identified in that agreement.

Property Information, Permits and Compliance

Property records, zoning, building conditions and applicable requirements vary. You and the professionals you retain are responsible for confirming the intended use, property information, approvals, drawings, permits, inspections, registration, rental licensing and regulated-trade requirements. Do not begin regulated work solely because information appears on this website.

No Guarantee of Feasibility, Approval or Result

No website content, form, assessment, referral, preliminary conversation or provider introduction guarantees that a basement can be constructed, renovated, legalized, registered, licensed, rented or approved. Results depend on the property, records, existing work, applicable law, authority decisions, provider performance and other circumstances outside the website operator’s control.

Estimates, Budgets and Timelines

Any cost range, estimate, schedule or availability statement presented before a signed contract is preliminary. Concealed conditions, design development, authority review, material availability, trade coordination, owner selections and scope changes can affect price and timing. Only a signed written agreement with the responsible provider defines binding commercial terms.

User Submissions

You retain ownership of material you submit. You grant the website operator a non-exclusive right to host, copy, review, organize and disclose that material as reasonably necessary to operate the website, process the request, prevent misuse and connect you with relevant providers. You confirm that submitted content is accurate to the best of your knowledge and that you have the right to provide it.

Acceptable Use

You must not use the website to break the law, misrepresent identity or authority, submit knowingly false or infringing content, upload malware, attempt unauthorized access, disrupt operation, test security without permission, harvest personal information, send spam, or use automated systems to scrape or overload the website. Access may be restricted or terminated for suspected misuse.

Intellectual Property

The website design, branding, logo, original text, graphics, code and downloadable materials are owned by or licensed to the website operator and are protected by applicable intellectual property laws. You may view and print reasonable portions for personal project planning. You may not copy, republish, sell, frame, remove notices from or commercially exploit website material without permission.

Third-Party Websites and Tools

The website may link to municipal, regulatory, mapping, social, analytics or other third-party services. Links are provided for convenience and do not imply control or endorsement. Third-party content, availability, security, terms and privacy practices are the responsibility of those third parties.

Website Availability and Changes

The website may be updated, suspended, restricted or discontinued without notice. Content may contain errors or become outdated. Features, service areas, providers and referral arrangements may change. The website operator is not responsible for interruption, data loss, transmission failure or unavailable third-party services.

Disclaimer of Warranties

To the fullest extent permitted by law, the website, content and referral features are provided on an “as is” and “as available” basis without representations, conditions or warranties of any kind, whether express, implied or statutory, including accuracy, completeness, merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, non-infringement or uninterrupted availability.

Limitation of Liability

To the fullest extent permitted by law, the website operator and its personnel are not liable for indirect, incidental, special, consequential, exemplary or punitive loss, or for lost profits, lost opportunities, loss of data, property damage, personal injury, project delay, additional cost or provider conduct arising from or related to website use, reliance on content, a referral or an independent provider agreement. Nothing in these Terms excludes liability or consumer rights that cannot lawfully be excluded.

Indemnity

To the extent permitted by law, you agree to indemnify the website operator against third-party claims, losses and reasonable costs arising from your unlawful use of the website, your breach of these Terms, or content you submit without the required authority or rights.

Privacy

Personal information is handled as described in the Privacy Policy. By submitting a request, you acknowledge that relevant information may be disclosed to selected independent providers so they can evaluate and respond.

Changes to These Terms

These Terms may be revised as the website, referral process or applicable requirements change. The updated Terms will be posted with a revised date. Continued use after publication means you accept the revised Terms to the extent permitted by law.

General Provisions

If any provision is found unenforceable, the remaining provisions continue in effect. A delay in enforcing a provision is not a waiver. These Terms and the Privacy Policy form the entire agreement concerning use of the website itself and do not replace a separate written provider contract.

Governing Law

These Terms are governed by the laws of Ontario and the federal laws of Canada applicable in Ontario, without regard to conflict-of-law principles. Subject to rights that cannot be waived, disputes concerning the website are subject to the courts located in Ontario.
